Pauline, a self-employed nurse in the mining district betweenLens and Lille, raises her two children alone andcares for her father, a former steelworker, as if he were herthird child. Yet nobody sees that Paulineis in touch with an increasingly harsh everyday social realitythat means she is gradually becoming ready for a commitmentthat will mark a complete break with her family’spast.
