Artist Roby Comblain has had many lives. He was a scenographer, and has painted stones salvagedfrom quarries, but first and foremost he is now an engraver, and is revolutionising his field. His Linoscenesbring together scenography and linocut engraving, doing surprising things with ink and paper.He transforms them into things of volume, things of space. Violaine de Villers starts in medias res,in the heat of the action, in the thick of the materials, and in the midst of colour. While tracking theconstruction of a new set of Linoscenes, this film also narrates the artist’s unusual life story, from hischildhood in Rwanda to what motivates him in his creative work.
