"Can we can feed six or seven billion people on Earth with meat every day?"
The answer is unequivocally: no.
This film explains why and what we can do to change things.
The food-industry multinationals produce millions of tons of meat the impact of which on the environment is catastrophic.
- greenhouse gas emissions with considerable impact on the entire chain: connected with deforestation, methane freed by the digestion of cattle, and energy consumption along the entire production chain, from transportation to merchandise.
- intensive cereal farming as food for animals: the production of this food employs artificial fertilisers and pesticides, responsible for dramatic pollution of water and soil; massive use of agricultural surfaces, whose ever greater needs in terms of surface area lead to deforestation.
- consumption of 8% of human water uses at the world level. Pollution of water and soil by nitrates.
To limit one's consumption of meat is therefore good for one's health and good for the environment! Having meat one or twice a week is more than sufficient to cover the protein needs of an adult with a well-balanced diet.
But in order to modify in depth this industrialisation with catastrophic consequences, we must rethink and redirect our own consumption towards more healthy food, in harmony with the environment, and produced with respect for the animal.
