The movie follows the obstacle-laden migration of Chinese mitten crabs. Accidentally imported from China at the beginning of the 20th century, they are spawned in the North Sea and travel up the rivers of Flanders before returning to the sea to reproduce and die. We walk alongside them in the watery depths, in their own peculiar world of sensations, emotions and some form of intelligence. When human-made obstacles sometimes force them out of the water, however, they start invading small towns or clogging the cooling filters of a nuclear pow- er station. In doing so, they not only reveal the fragili- ty of human constructions, but also inspire reactions, speculations and fantasies in the imaginations of the locals who encounter them ... Or, as in the ritual full moon dinner party hosted by Chinese exiles, end up on the table as a culinary delight. Going beyond the anecdotal level, theirs is a journey both metaphysical and concrete, a modern poetic parable between documentary and fiction, open to the contradictory diversity of reality.
