“Yiddish Soul” is an encounter with contemporary Yiddish music. We thought it had disappeared in the ashes of the ghettos and yet it is still alive and well. The music, like the language and the songs, is the faithful mirror of a wandering people. Love songs, lullabies, praise to God, popular dancing songs: the sacred and the profane, melancholy and joy, irony, humour and tragedy mingle - and often within the same song. We are immersed in the renaissance of this music through the journey of talented artists such as Karsten Troyke, Shura Lipovsky, Myriam Fuks and the KlezRoym. They convey the immediate pleasure of Yiddish music and songs. “Yiddish Soul” is at the heart of the emotional relationship between these artists and today’s Yiddish songs.
