2 Belgian films at the Semaine de la Critique!
"L'intérêt d'Adam" by Laura Wandel and "Kika" by Alexe Poukine were selected at the 64th edition of the Semaine de la Critique.
Four years after her first film Playground, which was screened in the official Selection at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in the 'Un Certain Regard' section, Laura Wandel is back in Cannes. The Belgian director’s second film, Adams Needs, produced by Dragon Films and Les Films du Fleuve, will open the Semaine de la Critique.
Following a court decision, four-year-old Adam, who is suffering from malnutrition, has been taken to hospital. Lucy, paediatric head nurse, authorises Rebecca, Adam’s mother, to remain with her son despite visiting times having been strictly limited by judge. When Rebecca stubbornly refuses to leave Adam, the situation becomes complicated. For the child’s sake, Lucy will do all she can to help this mother in distress.
In the context of this year's competition, is also Kika, the very first fiction feature film by director Alex Poukine, produced by Wrong Men.
While pregnant, Kika’s partner dies suddenly. Homeless, broke and heartbroken, she sets her priorities:
1. find money quickly
2. get out of trouble
Dirty panties, dildo belts and neurotic parents will help him. Against all odds.
Let us also acknowledge the selection of the documentary Imago by Déni Oumar Pitsae, co-produced by Need Productions, with the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel.
Finally, let us note the presence of the Belgian company Umedia in the credits of the film Dandelion's Odyssey by Momoko Seto, which will close this edition.
The 64th edition of the Semaine de la Critique will take place in Cannes from May 14 to 22, 2025.
