Three Belgian selections at Zinebi!
Zinebi has announced its selection, and three Belgian films are going to be presented at the festival.
ZINEBI is the only international Class A festival in Spain in the documentary and short film category recognised by FIAPF since 1974, accredited by the Hollywood Academy as a qualifier for the Oscars, by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for the BAFTA Awards, by the European Film Academy for the European Film Awards, and by the Spanish Academy for the Goya Awards.
This year's program includes three Belgian films selected in the Short Film International Competition:
We commence with a grand entrance, with the world premiere of La Villa Madjo by Elen Sylla Grollimund, a production of Atelier Graphoui!
Beginning from the observation that her father, who is white and was born in Africa and that her mother, who is black and was born in Europe, the director asks herself about being biracial and reveals the complex history of her family, from colonialism to the experience of the interracial couple in Europe in the 1950's and 60's.
Next, we will have the oppotunity to discover Pina by Jérémy Depuydt and Giuseppe Accardo. The film is produced by Soupmedia and internationally distributed by l'Agence belge du court métrage.
At the beginning of the 20th century, in a remote village in the Sicilian countryside, Pina, the baker's daughter masks her power, to regenerate the earth, from others. With each harvest, unscrupulous bandits plunder the village, sowing terror. The kidnapping of Pina by the ferocious mafia boss will plunge the hamlet into an era of famine until the fate of the entire country is turned upside down.
Finally, A Season in Hell by Yann Ducreux, produced by Phospore Films, has also been selected.
Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine had a tempestuous love affair in the 19th century that lasted almost two years and ended with a pistol shot and two years in a Belgian prison. This film reimagines this relationship through a modern lens and with a splash of color.
Let's also note the presence of the film Bye Bye Tiberias by Lina Soualem, in Belgian co-production with Altitude 100 and internationally distributed by Lightdox, which will be part of the Beautiful Docs section of the festival.
See you in Bilbao from November 10 to 17, 2023, to support our French-speaking Belgian productions and co-productions!
