"Dalva" has been selected for the 56th Karlovy Vary Festival

The programme of the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival has been announced. The feature film "Dalva" by Emmanuelle Nicot has been selected in the non-competitive section.

Karlovy Vary is the oldest and the most prestigious film festival in eastern Europe. Since 56 years the festival has been programming about 200 films from all over the world, most of them international or world premieres.  The programme of "Horizon", a non-competitive section, which aims to highlight the most outstanding recent films, includes Dalva, the director's first feature film, produced by Hélicotronc and with international sales handled by MK2 Films. Last May, the film had its world premiere at the prestigious Semaine de la critique in Cannes.

Dalva is 12 years old but dresses, wears make-up, and thinks of herself as a grown woman. One evening, she is abruptly removed from her father’s home.
First revolting in total incomprehension, she meets Jayden, a social worker, and Samia, a teenager with a strong character. A new life seems to be opening up for Dalva: the one of a girl of her own age.

This is the first feature film by the young director. Emmanuelle Nicot graduated from the IAD in 2012 and made a name for herself with her short films Rae and A l'arraché, both of which won around 15 festival awards. She also works as a casting director, specialising in wild casting.

Also noteworthy is the selection, in the same section, of the Belgian-Moroccan co-production, The Blue Caftan by Maryam Touzani, co-produced by Velvet Films.

Halim has been married for a long time to Mina, with whom he runs a traditional caftan store in the medina of Salé, in Morocco. The couple has always lived with Halim's secret, his homosexuality, which he has learned to keep quiet. Mina's illness and the arrival of a young apprentice will upset this balance. United in their love, each will help the other face his fears.

The 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will take place from 1 to 9 July 2022.
