"Night Call" in Busan!

Michiel Blanchart's first feature film in the program of the 2024 edition of the Busan International Film Festival

The Busan International Film Festival is one of the most dynamic film events in Asia as well as the largest celebration of Asian cinema. Since its inception, the festival has become a driving force in the development of not only Korean cinema but also Asian cinema. With a variety of films from different genres and origins, BIFF continues to provide a strong foundation for the development of the local film industry and to discover new global talents through constructive efforts, including a co-production market and practical support programs for Korean and Asian film productions.

Night Call by Michiel Blanchart has been selected in the Midnight Passion section. The film is produced by Daylight Films and sold internationally by Gaumont. Premiering at the Nouvelles Vagues festival last June, Michiel Blanchart's debut feature won the Audience Award.

This night seems like any other for Mady, a student by day, locksmith by night. But Claire, the mysterious young woman he helps that evening, is not who she claims to be. This door does not belong to her apartment. And the bag she is desperately trying to recover is not hers, but Yannick’s, a man to whom Mady will soon have to answer. Caught in a relentless chase, Mady has only one night to prove his innocence in a city on the brink of chaos. One night to save his own skin.

Let’s also highlight the presence of five French-speaking Belgian co-productions selected at BIFF 2024: Julie Keeps Quiet by Leonardo Van Dijl (Les Films du Fleuve, World Cinema), Soundtrack to a Coup d’État by Johan Grimonprez (Onomatopée Films, Wide Angle: Documentary Showcase), L’Empire by Bruno Dumont (Novak, Icons), Vermiglio by Maura Delpero (Versus Production, World Cinema), and The Damned by Roberto Minervini (Michigan Films, World Cinema).

Although not financially supported by the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel, it’s worth noting the selections of Flow by Gints Zilbalodis (Take Five, Open Cinema) and Ghost Trail by Jonathan Millet (Hélicotronc, Flash Forward).

The 29th edition of the BIFF will take place from October 2 to 11, 2024.
