French-speaking Belgian cinema strongly represented in Hamburg
The 30th edition of FilmFest Hamburg opened on Thursday 29 September. On this year's programme are two Wallonia-Brussels productions and four co-productions.
Thursday 29 September saw the opening of the 2022 edition of FilmFest Hamburg. Among the films presented at this 30th edition are two French-speaking Belgian films. Emmanuelle Nicot's debut feature film produced by Hélicotronc, Love According to Dalva, will be presented as part of the Voilà! section.
Dalva is 12 years old but dresses, wears make-up, and thinks of herself as a grown woman. One evening, she is abruptly removed from her father’s home. First revolting in total incomprehension, she meets Jayden, a social worker, and Samia, a teenager with a strong character. A new life seems to be opening up for Dalva: the one of a girl of her own age.
The programme also includes Yuku and the Himalayan Flower by Arnaud Demuynck & Rémi Durin, in the Michel section. The animated feature produced by Artémis Productions and La boîte... Productions continues an excellent festival run.
On top of the highest mountains lives a plant of eternal light, the Himalayan flower. Yuku wants to give it to her grandmother. Her journey is full of obstacles. She has to cross the little bridge of fear guarded by the wolf! Through her music and songs, Yuku makes many friends, the most precious ingredient for succeeding in the adventure of life.
Finally, four co-productions are also on the programme for this 30th edition:
Queens by Yasmine Benkiran (Need Productions), Nayola by José Miguel Ribeiro (Luna Blue Films), Close by Lukas Dhont (Versus Productions), The Blue Caftan by Maryam Touzani (Velvet Films).
FilmFest Hamburg closes on 8 October.
