Every day, Jay travels the length and breadth of Tokyo in his taxi, looking for his daughter Lily. In the 9 years since he has separated from his wife, he has never been able to get custody of his daughter. Having given up hope of ever seeing her again, he is about to move back to France when Lily hops in his cab. But she doesn’t recognize him.
« I am particularly proud and honored to be selected once again for this prestigious festival. It rewards the demanding work of an entire team over several years. My thoughts go out to all my collaborators who believed in this film and, like me, are eager to share it. »
— Guillaume Senez
A Missing Part is Guillaume Senez's third feature film. His first film, Keeper, was selected at TIFF in 2015 (as well as in over 70 international festivals) and won around twenty awards. In 2018, Nos batailles premiered at the Critics' Week in Cannes. The film was subsequently selected for numerous festivals, including Karlovy Vary and Hamburg. It also won no fewer than five Magritte in 2019, including Best Film and Best Director.
Silent Panorama by Nicolas Piret has also been selected for the 2024 edition of the prestigious Canadian festival, in the Short Cuts section. The animated short film produced by Zorobabel has already been showcased at numerous international festivals, including IFFR, the Annecy festival, and Karlovy Vary.
In the midst of nature, at the foot of a cliff, two campers, intrigued by external noises, wander through the deserted landscapes with a flashlight in hand. Cracking, trickling, and other sounds will bring these places to life, inhabited by a silent, almost invisible, yet very present fauna. This film was drawn and animated alone on a single sheet of paper as a performance.
Let's highlight the selection of films co-produced by production companies from Wallonia-Brussels, supported by the Centre du Cinéma of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation:
- Julie Zwijgt by Leonardo Van Dijl, co-produced by Les films du fleuve, in the Centrepiece section.
- Les Damnés by Roberto Minervini, co-produced by Michigan Films, in the Wavelengths (Feature) section.
- Vermiglio by Maura Delpero, co-produced by Versus production, in Special Presentations.
- The Swedish Torpedo by Frida Kempff, co-produced by Velvet Films, in the Centrepiece section.
