The Dardenne brothers new film at Cannes!

"Young Mothers" will be in the official competition during the 78th Cannes Film Festival

At the press conference held this Thursday, April 10, the festival director Thierry Frémaux announced that the film by the Belgian filmmakers will be competing at the 78th edition of the festival.

Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane and Naïma are housed in a young mothers’ home to help them in their life as young mothers. Five under-aged mothers fight to obtain a better life for themselves and their children.

Young Mothers is the 13th film by the Dardenne brothers. Amongst their 13 feature films, 11 have been presented at the Cannes Film Festival—10 of them in the official competition! The Dardenne brothers hold the all-time record for the most awards received in the official competition at Cannes. To this date, they have won eight major prizes at Cannes, including two Palme d’Ors—an unprecedented achievement in the festival’s history.

Let us also highlight the presence of three films co-produced with the support of the CCA: the brand new film by Julia Ducournau, Alpha, co-produced by Frakas Productions which is selected in the Competition; The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo directed by Diego Céspedes, co-produced by Wrong Men in the Un Certain Regard section; The Richest Woman in the World directed by Thierry Klifa, co-produced by Versus in the Official Selection Out of Competition.

Lastly, let us note the presence of various French-speaking Belgian production companies in the credits of several selected films: Panache Productions and La Compagnie Cinématographique for Dalloway by Yann Gozlan and The Coming of the Future by Cédric Klapisch; Wrong Men for Connemara by Alex Lutz; Magellan Films for The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol by Sylvain Chomet.
