Zurich Film Festival : A new selection for "Maldoror"

The eighth feature film by Fabrice Du Welz will be part of the 2024 lineup of the ZFF

The Zurich Film Festival first took place in October 2005. Dedicated to supporting young talent, the ZFF offers a platform for the most promising filmmakers from around the globe, fostering connections between emerging directors, established filmmakers, the film industry, and the public. Despite its youth, the festival has quickly become the second-largest in the German-speaking world and was named one of the top 10 European film festivals by the Guardian.

Maldoror by Fabrice Du Welz has been selected in the Signatures section of the festival. Produced by Frakas Productions and internationally sold by WTFilms, the film premiered in Venice early September, and has recently been selected for the BFI London Film Festival.

Belgium, 1995. The disturbing disappearance of two young girls shocks the population and triggers an unprecedented media frenzy. Paul Chartier, a young idealistic gendarme, joins the secret operation "Maldoror" dedicated to monitoring a repeat offender suspect. Confronted with police system malfunctions, he embarks alone on a manhunt that plunges him into obsession.

Also noteworthy are the presence of three selected French-speaking Belgian co-productions: Marching in the Dark by Kinshuk Surjan (Clin d’oeil Films, Documentary Competition), Soundtrack to a Coup d'État by Johan Grimonprez (Onomatopée Films, Sounds), and The Drama Queens by Alexis Langlois (Wrong Men, Sounds).

Finally, despite not receiving financial support from the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel, let’s highlight the selection of Flow by Gints Zilbalodis (Take Five, Signatures).

The festival will take place from September 25 to October 5, 2024.
