"Maldoror" and "Heads Or Fails" selected at Les Arcs 2024!

Two French-speaking Belgian films are part of the 2024 program at the Les Arcs Film Festival

The Arcs Film Festival has become a major cultural event with a focus on the promotion of the European in its diversity and of the many talents our continent has to offer. Located in the Alps, in one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the world, the Festival gives you both the chance to enjoy the first snows of the year and to attend screenings all day long in the presence of their crews.

After its world premiere at the Venice Festival and recent selection at the BFI London, Maldoror, the eighth feature by Fabrice Du Welz, has been chosen for the Playtime section at the Les Arcs Festival. Produced by Frakas Productions and distributed internationally by WTFilms, the film continues to make waves on the festival circuit.

Belgium, 1995. The alarming disappearance of two young girls shakes the population and triggers an unprecedented media frenzy. Paul Chartier, an idealistic young gendarme, joins the secret operation "Maldoror," dedicated to monitoring a repeat offender suspect. Faced with the dysfunctions of the police system, he embarks on a lone manhunt that drives him into obsession.

Also selected in the Playtime section is Heads Or Fails by Lenny & Harpo Guit. Produced by Roue Libre Production and sold internationally by Best Friend Forever, the film had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024.

Brussels, today. Armande Pigeon is the queen of the shenanigans. In Brussels, she struggles to make ends meet because she can’t stop gambling on everything, always ending up on the wrong side of luck. When she teams up with Ronnie one night, everything changes – they win it all. And when you hit a winning streak, you have to know when to stop.

Notably, five French-speaking Belgian co-productions are also part of the lineup: The Swedish Torpedo by Frida Kempff (Velvet Films, Playtime), Vermiglio by Maura Delpero (Versus production, Oscar au ski), Sauvages by Claude Barras (Panique!, Special Screenings), Julie Keeps Quiet by Leonardo Van Dijl (Les Films du Fleuve, Oscar au ski), and Io Capitano by Matteo Garrone (Tarantula, Special Screenings).
