"Maldoror" selected at the BFI!
Fabrice Du Welz's new film is part of the program for the 68th BFI London Film Festival
The BFI London Film Festival is the UK's largest public film event, screening more than 300 features, documentaries, and shorts from nearly 50 countries across the globe.
After its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival a few days ago, Maldoror, Fabrice Du Welz's eighth feature film, has been selected in the Thrill at the BFI London Film Festival. The film is produced by Frakas Productions and sold internationally by WTFilms.
Belgium, 1995. The alarming disappearance of two young girls shakes the population and triggers an unprecedented media frenzy. Paul Chartier, an idealistic young gendarme, joins the secret operation "Maldoror," dedicated to monitoring a repeat offender suspect. Faced with the dysfunctions of the police system, he embarks on a lone manhunt that drives him into obsession.
Let’s also highlight the presence of no fewer than six French-speaking Belgian co-productions selected: Rising up at night by Nelson Makengo (Twenty Nine Studio & Production, Documentary Competition), Vermiglio by Maura Delpero (Versus Production, Official Competition), Savages by Claude Barras (Panique!, Family), Soundtrack to a Coup d’État by Johan Grimonprez (Onomatopée Films, Dare), Queens of Drama by Alexis Langlois (Wrong Men, Love), and Julie Keeps Quiet by Leonardo Van Dijl (Les Films du Fleuve, Debate).
Although not funded by the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel, it’s worth noting the selections of Families Like Ours by Thomas Vinterberg (Saga Films, Debate), Flow by Gints Zilbalodis (Take Five, Journey), and Ghost Trail by Jonathan Millet (Hélicotronc, Thrill).
See you in London from October 9 to 20, 2024!
