"Sparrows" selected at the Brest European Short Film Festival 2024

Rémi Durin's short film is part of the 2024 program at the Brest European Short Film Festival

The Brest European Short Film Festival (Côte Ouest) is the unmissable event for young cinematic creation in Europe. Unique in its European scope, the festival, founded in 1986, holds a vital place in the cultural life of Brest and Brittany. Every November, it provides a special moment to celebrate short films.

Sparrows, the new animated short film by Rémi Durin, has been selected for the Ages 7 and Up – Kids of the World section at the French festival. The film is produced by La Boîte,… Productions.

In a Buddhist temple, young monks begin their meditation when the master arrives. One of the children is distracted by a sparrow and follows the bird outside the monastery. Here begins a walk off the beaten paths that goes to the tour of his lifetime. When he has become an old monk, he returns back to the temple where young monks are waiting for him. One of them is distracted by a sparrow.

Let’s also note the presence of French-speaking Belgian co-productions: Ultraviolet by Veerle De Wilde (Naoko Films, European Competition), Les dents du bonheur by Joséphine Darcy Hopkins (Need Productions, Brest Off - Cold Sweat), Cherchez le garçon by Paulin.e Goasmat (Taste It Productions, One Short, One Journey), and Rabia by Mareike Engelhardt (Kwassa Films, Feature Film Preview).

See you in Brest from November 12 to 17, 2024.
