Four French-speaking Belgian productions at the FNC!

Two Belgian feature films and two short films are selected for the 2024 edition of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma!

A lively, bold, popular, innovative event! For more than 50 years, the FNC has been making national and international auteur cinema accessible, treating audiences to works of diversity and originality by emerging and major filmmakers. The focus on the NEW is threefold: new creators, new approaches and new technologies. Dean of Canadian film festivals and a major Quebec event, the FNC presents every year over 200 works from 60 different countries to celebrate the best of today’s cinema.

Striptease Intégral directed by Jean Libon, Yves Hinant, Clémentine Bisiaux, Régine Dubois, Stéphanie De Smedt, and Mathilde Blanc, is selected in the Temps Ø section of the festival. The film is produced by Artémis Productions and internationally sold by Le Bureau Films.

In five sketchings: the sensitive, touching, sometimes absurd, often funny, at times dark or luminous but ever so true-to-life paintings of human vanity in its wonderful triviality.

Life’s a Bitch by Xavier Seron will also be part of the Temps Ø program. The film is produced by Hélicotronc and internationally sold by Be For Films.

To please Cécile, Tom agrees to adopt her dead neighbor’s Chihuahua. The only problem with this apparently harmless animal is that it has seemingly pushed its owner to suicide and now wants its new owner’s hide too!
Actress and muse for a famous perfume brand, Greta is crushed. Her dog and her assistant both died, run over by a bus. In a dry cleaning shop, Greta meets Charlotte and asks her to replace her assistant... unless she meant her dog!
For Franck and Lola it was love at first sight. They have so much in common, except one thing: Lola doesn’t like dogs. Franck has to choose between his new love and Perdita, his best friend and the very best dog that ever was. Love and friendship aren’t always compatible.
Three intertwined destinies – three stories of humans and their dogs.

Two French-speaking Belgian short films will also be included in the 2024 FNC selection, both in the P’tits Loups section.

The first, Head In The Clouds by Rémi Durin, produced by La Boîte,... Productions, tells the story of Alfonso, a young squirrel, always has his head in the clouds. He loves watching them and sometimes takes snapshots of them. His parents and friends find it hard to take his hobby seriously. But cloud-gazing is not always easy – Alfonso sometimes has to be as brave as some of the great explorers of our times.

The second, Carotte, was directed by a collective of 12 children, Mathieu Labaye, and Simon Medard. The short film is produced by Camera-etc.

In just 5 days of workshops, 12 children aged 8 to 12 created an animated short film titled "Carotte." The young directors actively participated in every stage: writing the script, storyboarding, recording the soundtrack, and creating around 200 drawings (using pencil, marker, and paint)! Animation is a highly demanding and meticulous traditional technique, and the animators offered free animation modules alongside the production.

Let's highlight the presence of two French-speaking Belgian co-productions in the festival selection, both in the Temps Ø section: Animale by Emma Benestan (Frakas Productions) and Peaches goes bananas by Marie Losier (Michigan Films).

Let's also note the presence of Flow by Gints Zilbalodis (Take Five, Panorama International & P’tits Loups) and Else by Thibault Emin (Wrong Men, Temps Ø) in the 2024 FNC program.

See you in Montreal from October 9 to 20, 2024.
