Three French-speaking Belgian films in competition at DOK Leipzig!

"We Had Fun Yesterday", "Tales from the Source" and "Crushed" are selected in competition at DOK Leipzig 2024 !

The International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, DOK Leipzig, is the largest festival of its kind in Germany and one of the leading international events for documentary and animated films. Held every autumn, it stands out for its program that uniquely combines both documentaries and animated films, a rarity in the global festival scene. During the week-long event, around 250 short and feature-length films, as well as extended reality (XR) works, are screened in Leipzig.

For its 67th edition, DOK Leipzig has selected We Had Fun Yesterday by Marion Guillard, produced by CVB, in International Competition. The film will have its world premiere at the German festival.

I’m asking myself : Why I had to see, even created perfect images of nature ? If "Nature" seems to exist only at the condition of get into the world of images, it's pretty much the same injunction I encountered growing up in a woman's body. But this could be different.

Tales from the Source by Léonard Pongo is also selected in International Competition. The film is produced by Twenty Nine Studio & Production and in coproduction with Atelier Graphoui. It has just been selected for DocLisboa 2024.

Tales from the Source offers a gaze on the landscapes of the Democratic Republic of Congo to translate a sense of its unfathomable power, diversity and knowledge. The scenery is presented as a character acting as a living entity and inhabited by the symbolism of Congolese traditions. The visual approach borrows techniques from multispectral imaging, resulting in an otherworldly experience with surreal lights and colour. Combined with an original musical composition by Bear Bones, Lay Low, we enter into a sensory dialogue with the landscape, an intelligent, ageless being in constant transformation that challenges our perception.

The short documentary Crushed by Camille Vigny, produced by Dérives, is selected in the Doc Alliance Award competition. The film was previously selected at Visions du Réel 2024 and will also be screened at DocLisboa 2024.

Summer is the stock-car season. Cars gear up for a long day of racing that will end in their total demolition. As I reminisce offstage about the violent summer of my 18th year, recounting the man who slowly kills me inside, the cars become unrecognizable, akin to a group of smoking yet heroic carcasses.

Lastly, let’s highlight the presence of the French-speaking Belgian co-productionsMarching in the Dark (Clin d’œil Films, Audience Competition) and Blueberry Dreams (Iota Production, Audience Competition).

See you in Leipzig from October 28 to November 3, 2024!
